Joy Patel - at the Intersection Leading to the Future

Joy Patel - The third-generation entrepreneur holding legacy in one hand and tech vision in another, paving the road for future Penned by Yeshasvi Pareek

In a world where business acumen often seems like an inherited trait, some defy the odds, carving their path with determination and innovation. Meet Mr. Joy Patel, a 24-year-old visionary who stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation in business. Hailing from a lineage steeped in entrepreneurial legacy, Joy represents the third generation of a family who has been in the lineage for almost 3 decades. But make no mistake, their story is not just about continuing a legacy; it's about forging a new narrative, one that blends the wisdom of the past with the audacity of the present. This time here at HFM let’s delve into the journey of this young dynamo, whose journey embodies the essence of entrepreneurship in the modern era.

Born and brought up in Surat, Joy is a law graduate who’s keen on making meaningful relations, loves driving, and is a businessman by preference “From 9 to 7 I’m at the office, and after 7 it's my me time but 24*7 I’m a family man.” Joy is a car fanatic “My favorite stress buster is going for a fun spin” and this love for cars is inherited from his father, both of them are passionate car collectors. Our young entrepreneur is also a coffee enthusiast who must have his favorite barrel-aged coffee by the end of the day.

The Passed-On Legacy

Mr Joy’s inheritance doesn’t only include his love for cars and business acumen but also his great family values, which are passed down to him as a legacy. And he truly implements those in his business as well. He believes inheriting the company is as common as inheriting any other family legacies. “I believe that if you have something in hand, then grow it bigger. If I have my dad’s business I’ll work with him, add to it, and expand it with his help, so that in the future he can happily retire. I see nothing wrong in it.” Contrary to the ideology prevailing in society these days, he believes if you have a strong base, why start new and not expand?

His family has been dealing in real estate, land banking, and leasing lands to MNCs for more than 2 decades. Through this leasing business, they have been part of many pioneer projects in the city like Big Bazaar, automobiles, restaurants, and hospitals. While working with so many diverse sectors this family’s finance and business acumen is on point, and the same has been passed down to this next-gen owner. But Joy takes this as a treasure and he wants to work hard and be careful while preserving it. “My elders have worked hard to grow this from zero to 1000 and increasing it by even 100 takes a lot from me. So I want to be very careful with every step”.

The Man And His Story

Standing by his name, Joy has always been a happy-go-loving man. He prioritizes family and values the things he has in life. And according to him, all the due credit behind his personality is to be given to Swaminarayan school and hostel where he spent 11 years of his life and another is the disciplined atmosphere of his house. “Today I am here because of the values and teaching that I learned during my hostel days from my gurus.” Despite coming from a financially fit background he has been taught to value every penny. “We used to get pocket money of Rs 2000 for monthly expenses during college days.

This entrepreneur has seen different phases of life at such a young age. He is a keen promoter of mental health as he has been through rough phases in life. Mr. Joy was diagnosed with the condition of Vitiligo around a decade ago and has been taking treatments, being put on medics and steroids and traveling to and fro Mumbai frequently for the treatment in the last ten years. All these years of getting bullied in school as a child, taking such difficult treatments and continuous medications led to a depressive phase in his life. He decided to end all of his sufferings, he put up with the bravest decision of putting an end to the treatment and accepting the condition as it is. “That day my healing process started.” He believes that one should always address the psychological issue for them to get resolved, “talk about your thoughts so that they can be understood.

He believes that one of the strongest feelings is to always keep your loved ones close because they can help you overcome any challenge. He shared with HFM that he cherishes his family and friends in life who helped him get over his phase of despair. “My friends have been there with me in my highs and lows. I would say they are the supportive pillars of my life. Without them, I would be nowhere.

The bottom line is that one should be more mindful of their mental health. If you are mentally stable you can conquer the world. You will come back stronger.

The Third-Generation Vision

Joy wants to and works towards adding the expertise of technology and social media to their business. “It's sometimes difficult to indulge the idea of newness in the traditional ways of elders, but I am trying my best to do it.”

Besides maintaining his father and grandfather’s goodwill, Mr Joy Patel is keen to work towards building something of his own. Along with giving hands to his father’s business, there are a few sectors that are solely operated by him. At such a young age he took a challenge to run a bankrupt company that his family took over,  and within a span of 2 years, he could close the books with profit. He is actively running a steel pipe manufacturing company called GSPL Seamless, which manufactures one of its kind steel pipes in the industry. He proudly claims to be one of the companies hogging 25 inches wide and wider steel pipes alongside the leading Jindals. Apart from that he is envisioning and working on a technologically advanced business. He is putting his business acumen and law degree to use together by developing a technologically advanced legal application.

He is also an active member of an entrepreneurial community called Corporate Connections. He joined it in 2021 and was the youngest entrepreneur in the world to do so. When asked about his next 5 years' vision, along with the progression of the app, he shared his views on his interest in the agriculture sector and that he wants to do something in Organic farming. Also in the progressing years, he wants to be an investor more than a businessman. Highly envisioned man he is though!

Let’s Learn From His Learnings

He surely has to share some extracts from his life experiences; whatever you want to do, think first and then act. Accomplish whatever your mind suggests over your heart.  Just ignore the ‘log kya kahenge’, it is the reason most people don’t succeed. Work for yourself, and grow in the right direction; sometimes it’s important to put oneself first. Lastly, if you want to start something, just start it. Today is the right time.
