Nani Ka Pitara - Rise In The Time Of Brahma

Rejuvenate and redefine your lifestyle by waking up in ‘the creator’s hour’ and aligning your me time with the cosmos.

The wisdom our ancestors passed down to us is equivalent to a brimful chest of gems. You pick one at a time and it has the potential value to change some aspect of your life for damn ever. As you guys know we here at HFM also preserve such chests that we unlock for you all, and that’s none other than our very own ‘Nani Ka Pitara’. This time when we shuffled the box the wisest gem that popped out was ‘Brahma Muhurta’.

In the hushed embrace of dawn, when the world still slumbers beneath a blanket of stars, there exists a sacred and mystical moment known as the Brahma Muhurta. Brahma Muhurta, the last phase of the night, the divine interval before sunrise, beckons us to embark on a journey of self-discovery and renewal, where the boundless potential of a new day collides with the whispers of ancient wisdom. So come, let’s unravel the secrets of this celestial hour, where the cosmic dance unfolds, and the heartbeats of humanity synchronize with the rhythm of the universe.

Brahma Muhurta is a 48-minute period (muhurta) that begins one hour and 36 minutes before sunrise and ends 48 minutes before sunrise. The air is calm and peaceful, and the silence brings a sense of serenity. As we know the time of sunrise differs with seasons and geographical locations Brahma Muhurta also varies accordingly. But roughly this muhurta falls under the time slot of 4 to 5:30 AM.

Re-Define Your ‘Me Time’

Brahma muhurta is a Sanskrit word that translates to “time of Brahma,” or “the creator’s time.” It is said that this time is best to recreate yourself and your life.

Many of us often find ourselves complaining that in our busy lives, where we have multiple roles to fulfill, both personally and professionally, as well as being available for our loved ones, we barely have enough time to make it through the day. Unfortunately, in this whole trajectory of the day, the only aspect we tend to overlook is taking care of ourselves. We often miss our ‘ME’ time. Once the sun comes up it brings along the list of tasks, yesterday’s incomplete tasks, today's planned task, and the brainstorming for tomorrow. And we can't even complain. So why not make a little escape for ourselves, and snatch that extra hour from the day after the night ends and before the golden sparkle of sun comes out? Let's snatch this ‘zero zone’ of the day for ourselves when all our personal and professional comrades are still asleep.

What Is The Recreation Of Self?

Recreating yourself means awakening yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. This awakening can boost your productivity of the day and eventually your life. The activities that are suitable for Brahma Muhurta, researched and tested, are meditation, reading or acquiring knowledge, planning your day, introspecting, and bowing down to your creators (Parents, Gurus & the Almighty).

In this earliest part of the morning, just before sunrise, when our prana or life force energy is considered strongest the cosmic energies of the universe are at their highest at this hour of the day. Our brain being the receptor can receive these vibrations up to its highest limit if one meditates or does ‘dhyana’, as most of the brains are still asleep. The man and universe relationship peeks at this moment. After sunrise people awake and materialistic mental radiations are emitted into the cosmos making meditation and yoga less fruitful. The circadian rhythm has been studied in vast detail by biologists and physiologists and probably this period is associated with hormonal changes conducive to the blossoming of the mind. Liberation of nascent oxygen which easily mixes with haemoglobin forming oxyhemoglobin and reaching remote tissues.

Let's Hear It From Ayurveda

It is said that Ayurveda is the science of longevity. Our Rishis have written the concept of Brahma Muhurta as an initial part of the concept of Dincharya (daily routine). The very first verse of Ayurveda on Brahma Muhurta which is written in Ashtanga Hridaya, a treatise on Ayurveda, says ;

“Brahmi Muhurtam uttishthet swastho rakshartham ayusha: tatra sarvartha shantyartham smareccha madhusudanam”

A person who is interested in preserving health and longevity should get up early in the morning in Brahma-muhurta. A healthy man should give up his bed in Brahma Muhurta to protect the Ayu (life).

Early morning is Vata, one of the Tridosha, dominating periods of the day. Physical activities such as exercises and Yoga asanas can be performed well in Vata Kala. Meditation also gets the help of undisturbed Vata which can be found early in the Brahma muhurta. This time is hailed as the best time to learn, especially learn and realize subtler aspects of philosophy and spiritual growth. If one tries to find out the secret underlying this then one can realize that there are probably several changes in the physical, chemical, and biological atmosphere at around this time, which probably catalyzes the spiritual blossoming of an individual. This is indeed a rejuvenating time as the whole universe begins to wake up at around this time

Our ancestors figured that certain activities done in Brahma Muhurta, like meditation, yoga, learning, praying, and retrospection,  can help one to tune within. These activities help make this time with yourself special and fruitful, both on personal and worldly fronts.

Should Everyone Wake Up In Brahma Muhurta?

According to the Ashtanga Hridaya, only healthy individuals should wake up during Brahma Muhurta. The text advises against waking up during this time for certain individuals, including:

  • Pregnant women (if you are not used to waking up at this hour).

  • Children

  • Elderly people who have not been waking up during this time from the beginning

  • People suffering from physical or mental illnesses

  • Those who have not digested their previous meal (indicated by the absence of a bowel movement)

If you do not fall into any of the above categories, then it is a good idea to wake up during Brahma Muhurta. Doing so can make you feel great and improve your productivity by up to 5 times.

As we embrace the peaceful silence before sunrise, we discover a timeless sanctuary where our daily aspirations align with the whispers of eternity. Brahma Muhurta invites us to greet each new day not as a mere routine, but as a sacred opportunity for growth, gratitude, and a lasting connection with the limitless cosmic energies that guide us on our life's journey. So let’s make the most out of the day by rising in this hour of the divinity.
