You’re either part of the solution or part of the problem.
This truth from Eldridge Cleaver highlights a common dilemma: many people notice problems, but few take action to fix them. It so happens that people often convince themselves that the system is not their responsibility. Or that they alone cannot bring about a major change. However, one man believes otherwise.
At the turn of the decade, everything went online. Many industries embraced the digital shift, putting countless products and services just a tap away. Yet, one vital commodity has remained stubbornly offline: construction materials.
Nishant Mittal saw this gap clearly. The online marketplaces were flourishing. Everything from groceries to luxury cars was just one click away. However, construction materials—the backbone of every building project—were still locked behind outdated, opaque systems.
Determined to change this, Nishant envisioned a platform that would not only bring construction materials online but also bridge the crucial gap between knowledge and execution.
Born out of this vision was Conkart, a marketplace designed to solve all these issues. And this is the story of how this platform is set to revolutionise India’s construction industry, transforming how materials are bought, sold, and trusted.
Conkart: Building Transparency in Construction
The idea of Conkart came to Nishant in 2022 during an after-party conversation with his cousin brother Ankush Shah. As they discussed the persistent problems in the construction industry, they realised how much needed to change—and fast.
Nishant wasn’t new to these challenges. With nearly a decade of experience in Surat’s construction market, he had witnessed the issues up close.
“Builders didn’t have clear price knowledge. Engineers struggled to select the right products for the right applications. Logistics were a complete mystery; nobody knew where materials were once they left the warehouse,” he says. This lack of transparency led to confusion, delays, and occasionally inflated costs.
What troubled Nishant most was the dominance of a few distributors who held tight control over supply chains. If a distributor worked with one builder, others wouldn’t get a chance. This created unhealthy competition and opened doors to malpractices.
Over time, Nishant realised he was operating in a system that discouraged fairness and innovation. Hence, he decided to confront these problems. With his deep understanding of the market, he had a clear vision for Conkart: “Every construction material is a commodity, like oil or gold, and should have transparent pricing and easy access.”
With a strong understanding of ground reality, Nishant decided to build a platform that supported local vendors rather than replacing them and gave buyers a choice without compromising quality.
With Ankush's backing, Nishant began turning this vision into a reality. Recalling the initial vision for his Conkart, he says, “We wanted to create an Amazon and Zomato for construction materials, where trust and clarity come first.”
Thus, Conkart was born—a marketplace designed to break barriers, simplify procurement, and restore transparency to an industry long overdue for change.
How Conkart is the game changer
Conkart isn’t just another marketplace built to sell products. The primary purpose of this platform is to develop solutions for the long-standing challenges in the construction materials industry.
From an easy 9-click shopping process to transparent logistics, every feature on this platform addresses the market's pain points and caters to those needs. With that being said, let’s take a look at how Conkart is the game changer:
Supporting local vendors
What sets Conkart apart from other platforms is its resolve to support local vendors. They could have easily adopted an OEM model and prioritised sales over community. But they chose a different path.
“We didn’t want to kill the market; we wanted to take local vendors along with us,” Nishant explains. This approach empowers small sellers to expand beyond their traditional boundaries, connecting them with buyers across states and cities.
By supporting the local vendors, Conkart strengthens the entire construction ecosystem rather than sidelining the very people who form its backbone. This inclusive vision enables vendors to scale their businesses without compromising their identity or market presence, fostering a healthier and more competitive market where everyone benefits.
Simplified user experience
Apart from local vendors, Conkart also puts its customers at the centre of everything. They understand that many of their users may not be tech-savvy and still rely on traditional methods, such as pen and paper, to manage their accounts.
To counter this challenge, Nishant and his team invested nearly two years in developing a minimalist and user-friendly platform. “Our contemporaries often laughed at how long it took us, but we were focused on making the process as simple as possible,” Nishant shares.
The result is a streamlined experience where buyers can place an order in as few as nine clicks, with minimal document uploads required. This simplicity ensures that both experienced digital users and those new to online platforms can navigate Conkart without frustration.
Transparency
One cannot build a successful business without transparency, and Conkart understood that task from the early dose. Hence, they ensured that their platform addressed one of the biggest pain points of their industry: hidden costs and unclear processes.
Nishant believes that builders and buyers often pay a hefty price due to opaque pricing and unreliable logistics. “After an order, nobody knew where the truck had reached with the material,” he explains, highlighting the frustration caused by a lack of visibility.
Conkart changes this by integrating tracking, allowing customers to track their dispatch and know exactly where their materials are at every stage. Pricing is equally transparent, calculated based on distance and logistics, eliminating guesswork and unfair markups. This clear and trackable system helps rebuild trust between buyers and sellers, reducing delays and disputes.
AI supported fairness
Conkart’s integration of AI technology has become a true game changer, ensuring customers receive the best options without compromising on quality or price.
Nishant explains, the platform uses an AI-driven model to select sellers for each order, “so buyers don’t know who they’re buying from, and sellers don’t know who they’re selling to until after the order is placed.” This encrypted system prevents price manipulation and keeps the market competitive.
By leveraging AI, Conkart automatically matches buyers with sellers who comply with market rates, guaranteeing fair pricing and authentic products. This cutting-edge approach removes middlemen and levels the playing field, allowing buyers to access the widest selection without inflated margins.
Balancing the environmental duties
Saving or contributing for the betterment of our Environment is everyone’s responsibility. And despite being in an industry that contributes a lot to pollution, Conkart has made it its core mission to be environmentally responsible.
This mission is highlighted by their commitment to onboard 100% carbon-free, eco-friendly products, including those certified by GRIHA—the government-backed green building rating system.
“Using GRIHA-certified materials not only benefits the environment but also offers buyers government subsidies, making sustainable choices easier and more affordable,” Nishant explains.
Beyond product selection, Conkart is actively working to reduce its carbon footprint through smarter logistics, such as combining multiple orders from the same area to minimise truck trips. The company is also exploring the use of electric vehicles for transportation to further cut emissions.
These thoughtful steps show how Conkart isn’t just revolutionising construction procurement—it’s striving to make the entire industry greener and more sustainable for the long term.
Ritesh Deshmukh: More Than Just a Face
Bringing Ritesh Deshmukh on board was a carefully thought-out decision rooted in more than just celebrity appeal. Nishant explains that Ritesh’s connection to the company runs deep; he is a close friend of the founder Ankush Shah and, importantly, an architect who understands the construction industry firsthand. This unique background allows him to genuinely grasp Conkart’s vision and explain its value clearly to a wider audience.
The idea to make Ritesh not only an investor but also a board member came after discussions with ex-advisor Chetan Tolia. They recognized that having Ritesh as the face of the company would elevate Conkart’s credibility, trustworthiness, and overall brand value. “We didn’t want someone who was just a face,” Nishant says. “We wanted a partner who truly believes in what we’re building and is ready to be part of the journey.”
Ritesh’s involvement goes beyond endorsements—he is an active stakeholder who supports Conkart’s mission to transform the construction procurement space.
His presence bridges the gap between industry expertise and mass appeal, inspiring confidence among buyers, sellers, and investors alike. In Ritesh, Conkart found not just a brand ambassador, but a genuine believer who amplifies the company’s commitment to innovation, transparency, and growth.
Embracing Change to Build a Better Future
In today’s fast-evolving world, it’s essential to transform industries for the better. Conkart stands as a prime example of how innovation can bridge long-standing gaps, creating transparency, fairness, and sustainability in construction procurement.
By empowering local vendors, simplifying processes, and embracing AI-driven solutions, Conkart is reshaping an age-old market and setting new standards.
As the construction industry faces rising demands and environmental challenges, platforms like Conkart prove that thoughtful use of technology can drive growth, trust, and responsibility—building a stronger foundation for the future of Indian construction.
People Behind Conkart’s Success
Conkart is the result of a dedicated team whose combined expertise and hard work have shaped its success. The journey began with Nishant and Ankush Shah, the two founders of Conkart.
